Time for Realignment - Regret vs. Anxiety

Bil Keane said “Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.” However, most of us fail to live in the present and are stuck between past Regrets and Anxiety about the future.
We may have regrets from the past or anxieties about the future depending on our state of mind. For a normal human being, it’s the surrounding conditions like work-life balance, financial security, and family members decide the state of mind. Remember, that's why our parents always wanted us to be in a company of good friends.
Living in the present is not possible all the time as we will always have few regrets and many anxieties or vice versa. Both regret and anxiety if not controlled can lead to life imbalance and we may experience some terrible situations that we will regret again in the future.
So what is good for you “Regret” or “Anxiety”?
This is something we need to understand first that there is absolutely no way we can change the past and there is absolutely no way we can control the future. But still, we live between regret and anxiety. In my opinion, a little bit of regret and anxiety should be part of our lives. These two things give us the human touch and can be our guide to make the present meaningful.
Let’s start with Regrets first. We have a long list of regrets that keeps growing from time to time. We tend to carry this baggage of regrets and the lighter it is the better it will be. Making the baggage lighter will need you to carry only the essentials that can help you to become a better person today. Here I am telling you to convert your regrets into learning and use it to conquer today. Converting regret into learning may not be simple but once it’s mastered you will never have regrets but only learning.
Here are some helpful tips to help you learn from regrets:
Digging deep within and making a list of regrets.
Try to categorize the list with the help of labels like Emotional / Professional / Personal etc.
Using a filter and pointing out the learning within. You may want to take the help of your family or friend from the right perspective.
I am sure that most of the learning you are already practicing that made you the person you are today.
For the remaining ones, you can make a note and try to incorporate in your life day after day.
Now it’s time to tame your anxieties. If you have learned enough from the past and are applying the same in your today then I think you need not worry much about the future. You can keep thanking your past for all the lessons and design your future by working on it today. Also, keep a check on your anxiety levels and keep working on your plan. If you don’t have a plan then don’t worry just go with the flow and enjoy the ride.
And lastly remember, a little bit of regret and anxiety keeps us humble and narrows the gap between “Human Being” and “Being Human”!
